3 Feet of Snow!

We received 3 feet of snow in the last 2 days, we are buried!

Looks like we won't be boiling again for a while. The weather looks like it is going to stay cold for this upcoming week.

First Boil February 23, 2012

Harvey boiled this afternoon for the first time this year. Ran out of sap around 5:30 p.m. Just enough sap to sweeten the pan, no syrup.

Looks like we have some snow coming. Predicting 4-8". Winter weather advisory until Saturday.

Sap is Running!

The sap began to run yesterday afternoon, ran all night and still running this morning.

Harvey has a full tank of sap. He will have enough sap to prime the RO, fill the arch and sweeten the pan. Not sure if he will actually make syrup today.

Last year's first boil was March 6, so it looks like we are ahead this year.

This morning it is snowing...sticky, heavy, sugar snow and 32 degrees. The trees are beautiful!

All Tapped!

We finished tapping yesterday.

Today Harvey and Jay organized the sugar house and put things together.

The weather looks like sugaring weather towards the end of this week.

2011 season, our first boil was March 6 along with 30" of snow!

Another Tapping Day

My brother, Jay, needs a new battery for his drill.

Jedidiah Worthington and Jeremy Bergeron are part of our tapping crew this year.

It was hard going in the woods today. The snow is soft, so you break through easily. Snowshoes would have made it easier to walk today.

1,000 Taps Done

Another day in the sugar bush and we have 1,000 taps completed.

Sap was running a little bit today. High of 42 today.

2012 Tapping Begins

Yesterday and today, Harvey and my brother, Jay Robtoy and a tapping crew have started tapping.

Temperature was in the mid 40's and the sap was running a little bit.
