Up and Running!

My brother, Aaron received my blog by e-mail that the arch wasn't working.  One of Aaron's neighbors is a service man for Mountain Air. Aaron called him and asked if he had a transformer part in his van and he did.

My brother & this wife, Marguerite, Tyler & his wife, Sam, jumped into their Polaris Razors and drove over Enosburg Mountain Road to help us out tonight.

Tyler was able to hook up the part and get the arch running. Excellent job Tyler, thank you so much!

Aaron, thank you for your quick thinking and finding the part we needed!

Harvey has started boiling and has about 3-4 hours of work ahead for the evening.

Arch Not Working

Sugarmaker's nightmare...full tank of concentrate, 1,000 gallons of sap, sap is running really good and the arch won't start on an Easter Sunday afternoon.

Harvey has called several places and no one can get here until tomorrow.

Harvey thinks it is the transformer and if it is they will have to order a part.

76 Gallons of A-Medium

Harvey boiled from 3:30 to 8:00 yesterday.

I finished canning all of the containers that we had. We have a great stock on hand finally.

Freeze last night, 24 degrees, high of 50 today. Looks like a great day ahead for boiling.

Symon loves to help Harvey boil.

Canning Night

We started boiling at 5:00 and ended at 9:00.

I canned last night for 2 hours, beautiful A-Medium grade.

Hayley and her friend, Vido, came to visit last night. Hayley helped wash out the RO concentrate tank when we finished boiling.

I am not sure how much I canned last night. I am going back up today to do inventory.

Harvey made 62 gallons of A-Dark with exceptional flavor last night.

Route 58 is very muddy with deep ruts...only 1 lane open. Harvey picked me up in the village last night, he didn't think my car would make it because the ruts were so deep.

Snowing hard here today, cold 25 degrees and windy.

Sap has stopped running. It has been running non-stop from Friday to Wednesday.

40 Gallons of Blue Ribbon Syrup

Harvey boiled late this afternoon. He made 40 gallons of A-Medium and he said the flavor was excellent...blue ribbon quality.

It has rained hard all day. The sap is still running but beginning to slow down. We have not had a freeze since Saturday night.

The back roads are very muddy and the town trucks are unable to fix the roads because the roads won't support the big equipment.

The rivers and brooks are very high and culverts are full.

The temperature is suppose to drop this evening with a low of 30 degrees and turning over to snow.

Sap Still Running

Sap is still running. We have a tank and a half of sap = 1,500 gallons.

Harvey will be boiling after lunch today. 41 degrees and raining.

This picture was taken during tapping.

Route 58 started breaking up today...lots of muddy ruts.

Fancy Syrup

Six gallons of Fancy syrup last night. Harvey said the sugar content is low, so it takes much more sap to make syrup.

Sap ran all night. 34 degrees this morning. Looks like another great day ahead for sugaring.

First Boil

Harvey boiled yesterday afternoon. He didn't make syrup, only sweetened the pan.

It has been snowing for about 5 days straight. Not a lot of accumulation, because it has warmed up during the day and some of the snow has melted.
